Opportunities & Employment in Somalia

In the context of a rapidly developing pandemic, we consulted business owners in some of the most promising sectors of the Somali and Somaliland economies on challenges, prospects for growth and the skills required to succeed in the labour market.

Levante took a close look at opportunities arising from the rapid digitisation of the economies, as well as emerging sectors such as Fisheries and Greenhouse Technology. The development of these two sectors has been driven by the challenges of climate change and drought for Somali food security and livelihoods.

Levante sought to identify opportunities within these sectors for women, people with disabilities and vulnerabilities. We assessed current skills training provision, consulted stakeholders in the Ministries of Education and made recommendations to our partners on the next steps forward.
